From Backup to Backbone
Eric Snow began his career backing up Gary Payton in Seattle, learning the intricacies of NBA defense from one of the game’s best. By the time he was traded to Philadelphia, he was ready to lead. In Philly, Snow became the steady hand next to Allen Iverson—a quiet counterbalance to Iverson’s chaos. He played through injury, took on tough assignments, and made the right play, again and again.
Trusted By Coaches, Respected By Peers
Snow didn’t rack up gaudy stats, but coaches loved his low-mistake game. He posted a 3-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio over his career and often guarded the opposing team’s best backcourt scorer. His leadership helped guide the 2001 Sixers to the NBA Finals and later supported Cleveland’s rise as a mentor to a young LeBron James.
A Leader On and Off the Court
Even after retiring, Snow stayed close to the game—working in broadcasting and coaching. His peers often cite him as one of the most professional players they ever shared a locker room with. Whether it was setting up a play, taking a charge, or guiding rookies, Snow was always in the right place at the right time.
